MSD's 2025 Long-term Insights Briefing

Closes 25 Oct 2024

Opened 30 Sep 2024

Overview

Welcome! Haere mai!

MSD is proposing the following topic for our next Long-term Insights Briefing (LTIB)Current and future disadvantage for older New Zealanders.

We are proposing this topic as we would like to better understand this issue for New Zealand’s ageing population and its implications for policies and services.

We know that people aged 65 and over are a significant and growing population group in New Zealand, and that New Zealand has been a good place to grow old for most people. However, evidence suggests that more New Zealanders could experience hardship as they age due to decreases in homeownership rates, increases in the cost of living, and life expectancy increasing faster than health expectancy.

We are keen to hear your views on whether this is the right issue for MSD to consider.

Why your views matter

Although LTIB’s are not government policy, they may inform future policy advice by government agencies. They will also inform research and public discussion of the issues and opportunities.

The briefings process means the public help us collectively as a country think about, and plan for, the future on an issue that could have increased significance for New Zealand.

The consultation document and summary provide more information about the LTIB and the proposed topic.
